Procedures

All millwrights seeking employment must contact Local Union 548. This can be done by applying in person at the Union Office. Once on the out-of-work book millwrights must re-register the first three working days of each month to maintain their position. This can be done by mail, telephone or in person.

All millwrights on the out-of-work list that accept a job of three days or less can return to their original position on the book once the job is completed.

All Millwrights who accept a job of three days or more will be taken off the out-of-work book. Upon layoff or completion of the job, these trades’ people will be required to re-register.

Please note that any millwright will lose their position on the out-of-work book if they voluntarily request a lay-off or termination from their job. Also, a millwright on the out-of-work book who is called and refuses three consecutive employment opportunities will automatically be dropped from the book.

Millwrights whose dues are in arrears will not be dispatched.

Please note that IMCA Contractors can re-hire millwrights regardless of their position on the out-of-work book, if the contractor has employed them within the jurisdiction of Local 548 in the last 24 months.

Local Union 548 and the contractor members of the Independent Millwright Contractors Association (IMCA) have negotiated a contractual arrangement that provides for a Union Hiring Hall. This enables the contractor members to hire qualified union workers of the Millwright Trade.

This Union Hiring Hall has established and maintains an open and non-discriminatory employment list for unemployed journeymen and indentured apprentices of this trade. Contractors within the jurisdiction of Local Union 548 have previously employed trades people on this unemployed list.
